Veylark

Block spoilers in Twitch chat

Word filters don't catch "his brother dies at the end". Veylark understands what is meant and deletes spoilers before anyone reads them.

Why word lists fail at spoilers

Spoilers rarely use fixed words. People who reveal a plot twist paraphrase it, abbreviate it or misspell it on purpose. A word list would have to know every wording and deletes harmless messages that happen to contain a blocked word.

How it works with Veylark

You describe the rule the way you would explain it to a new mod, for example: "No spoilers about the story, the bosses or the ending of the game I'm playing." Veylark knows the current game from your channel and checks every message for its meaning. If it matches, the message is deleted and botVeylark briefly explains why.

Test first, then go live

New rules run in test mode and only write to the log. You see which messages Veylark would have deleted and switch the rule live once the hits are right. A false alarm becomes a counter-example with one click.

Example rule: No spoilers about the story or the ending of the game.

  • his brother dies at the end: deleted
  • wait for chapter 5, he's the traitor: deleted
  • the ending was so good, not saying more: stays
  • how long is the game roughly?: stays
